Piano's husband John died suddenly last November and the family chose this option for religious reasons. "You're doing it the way the bible says it should be done," Sandy said. "We have all our memories in our hearts."

The burial takes place without the use of a vault and can be performed with or without a biodegradable casket.

Around 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Lori falls asleep next to her 5-year-old son Caden in the king-size bed that was donated to the family. Caden was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia before his fifth birthday, and as a toddler was found to be autistic.

Caden sips a glass of root beer to wash out the taste of medicine from his mouth as he receives injections.

Caden receives medication from a hospice nurse as his father John Hall holds a frozen cherry drink that Caden requested.

Dr. William Schmidt of Greenville and Lori review a chart of Caden's medications on the wall in the kitchen. Upon Caden's diasnosis, Lori left her position as nurse to tend for her son day and night.

A representative of the Make-A-Wish Foundation presents Caden with movies, toy cars and a laptop computer to play games and watch movies.

Bryce Larson, Caden's 15-year-old brother, sits in the kitchen after not being able to sleep because Caden's health significantly declined over night.

Sandy Smith shows a photograph of her grandson Caden with a full head of hair before leukemia.

The Hall family documented Caden's journey with leukemia by making photographs throughout the process.
